CV template with UK sample information word
A smart two-page CV that is ideal for a range of roles. The sample information covers a Construction cv or General cv, or an Apprentice – but this type of layout works well for almost every profession. The layout contains no graphics, tables or other elements that might cause an issue for Applicant Tracking Systems that your information can be read correctly. However, all Applicant Tracking Systems are different and no guarantees can be offered.
you will see from the sample CV content that a CV should have the following sections:
Personal details
Professional profile
Career Summary
Qualifications and Training
Hobbies and Interests
Personal details
Include your name, address, phone number and email address.
If the job advertisement mentions any specific requirements such as a full driving licence or licences to operate certain machinery, include these at the top just underneath your personal details.
Professional profile
Sometimes called a Personal Statement, this is a summary of 3 – 4 sentences that explain why you’re a perfect fit for the role, with reference to the job advert. You may also wish to include a statement of what you are looking for.
Find out more about writing your personal statement here.
Career summary
This is your work history, in reverse chronological order (i.e. most recent first).
Focus on the / construction experience you have that is relevant to the job role you’re applying for.
Make a note of any key skills mentioned in the job advert and try to include examples of these in the work history.
Review a job profile for your target role to get ideas for the types of skills employers typically want to see in the construction industry.
Try to provide one or two achievements for each job role. These are far more powerful than a list of responsibilities, as they offer evidence that you have the skills claimed, and that you can do your job well. Use action verbs such as ‘Coordinated’, ‘Instructed’ or ‘Organised’ to help you recognise which parts of your work can be used as achievements. See this great list of action verbs from MIT for inspiration.
If you are short of work experience for this section, you could volunteer.
Qualifications and training
Highlight any qualifications and training relevant to the / construction role. Offer less detail for irrelevant training where there are no transferable skills – or leave it off altogether.
Employers will usually want to see that you have a CSCS card – either, apprentice or supervisor. Whilst you might think that this goes without saying, many employers use automated software and will be scanning for this keyword, so don’t leave it off your CV.
